Bills, bills, bills is all we think about, but a credit card debt settlement can help reduce how many bills you have to pay in future. Think about it. You reach an agreement with your creditors, you pay a single monthly payment to each one, then when the balance is cleared, you are done. This will dramatically simplify your life when you have fewer bills each month to keep track of.

How does a debt settlement work? You need to figure out what you have coming in and going out. Do you spend more than you earn at the moment? Do you save anything from each paycheck? Your checking account statement, credit card statement and receipts can tell you a lot about your recent spending activity. Most people find that they are spending quite a bit more than they thought.

The next thing to do is consider how you might be able to cut back. Are you going out to restaurants a lot? Perhaps you can dine out one less time per week or choose a less expensive place to eat? Individual DVD rentals can be cutback with a simple monthly fixed price with many retail and on-line outlets. This can also remove those pesky late fees too. Your goal is to find enough spare cash to be able to make a sizable settlement offer that will make the credit card company sit up and pay attention.

Making the call to reach a credit card debt settlement can be nerve-wracking. Just remember, they are there to do a job and you are their customer. It is personal to you, but it’s just another day at the office to the person on the other end of the line. They are trained to use a variety of different techniques to get you to offer more than you can afford. This includes trying to make you feel bad because you have fallen behind in payments, picking through your recent purchases berating you or other unpleasant attempts to embarrass you. They want to get an emotional reaction from you, because then they can better control the negotiation. Do not fall for it. Keep calm. Stay focused. Write down how much you can afford and do not offer more than that.

Click to read the article titled "Buying a Car with Bad Credit"

If you are looking at buying a car with bad credit then there are a few key points that you should be aware of. Remember, getting a bad credit auto loan is not impossible, you just have to know what you are doing to ensure that you are not taken advantage of by the lender.

The first step in learning how to buy a car with bad credit is to first learn about yourself. So many people walk into low and bad credit lenders without a clue as to why their credit score is bad. They then proceed to get a bad deal on their car loan simply becuase they did not take the time to check their own credit report. You should check your report for two reasons. First, if you already have a negative mark from a previous car lender then you probably won’t be able to get a new car loan until it is cleaned up or paid off. Second, you may have somethings that are hurting you but shouldn’t. Many times there are false or old claims against people and they never know it simply because they did not take the 10 minutes to check their report.

Finally, you should also remember that you may need to make a larger than normal down payment on the vehicle. Most bad credit car lenders will not make a loan without such a downpayment. This is because the moment you drive off the car lot your car will lose value (and in the case of a new car it will lose a lot of value). Having the down payment protects the dealer in case you default on your loan and they have to reposses and the re-sale your vehicle. However, with such a downpayment you are not only going to get the loan but you may also get a better rate on it.

Click to read the article titled "Credit Restoration On Your Own"

When you have bad credit, looking unsuccessfully to get approved for loans, credit restoration can become a significant difficulty to cope with. Once you have hurt your credit report score, it can take many months or years to restore your credit, and rebuild it once again to a qualifying credit score. As a matter of fact there are actions toward credit restoration which you can take to restore credit, but it may take time and patience. Let’s look at some scenarios.

If your bad credit has been the result of delinquent payments, to get back on track means you should immediately start making all of your minimum monthly payments on time. As few as one missed payment can hurt your score. The most difficult problem individuals are facing however is having trouble paying all of their bills, resulting from higher mortgage payments, increases in expenses for food, health care, utilities and other expenses. For some, this is compounded by reduced wages or sometimes job loss. So if you’re late with making monthly payments due to financial hardship, rather than a single slip up, you could have to take lengthy steps to get back on the schedule. In some cases you may have to take additional credit repair steps to get your bankers to reduce their payment schedule.

You might be thinking, should I go to a credit repair agency to take over credit restoration? Most often no, at least not initially. Most borrowers can take over things like working with credit card companies to try to get a lower interest rate or some other efforts like working out a payment plan. The bottom line is the best thing to do is get extra income flowing in to bring payment up to date and then continue to pay creditors on time. To do this, you really don’t need to use a credit help agency. Why spend time and money hiring a credit repair company when what you really need to do is just to find ways to bring your debt current.

Your efforts at credit restoration may not consist of complicated steps, but you’ll need patience to finish the task. Don’t stop plugging away and within a short time, you will see your credit improve.

Many people find it hard to secure credit when they have a lot of debt. This is brought about by their repayment history and no credit institution is willing to transact business with such people. Life can be very hard when one cannot access credit for the reason that they have a bad credit history. However, it does not mean that once a person gets in troubles repaying his/her debts, they will forever remain without accessing credit. Some companies have come up with a product that is aimed at rescuing those people with bad credits by giving them loans to buy vehicles. The loans for purchasing vehicles are mostly referred to as auto loans. In the United States of America and Canada there are companies that will assist you if many have turned you down lending institutions simply because you have a bad debt. They will connect you with car dealers and make sure that you will be cleared fast to get auto loans with bad credit.

However, it is possible to get an unsecured bad credit card even if you have bad debts. One way to ensure that you get an unsecured credit card is by listing yourself along with a spouse who has excellent credit history or a close family relative whose credit rating is good. This way you will be assured of securing credit even in circumstances where your credit history is not all that good. Failure to settle your debts does not mean that you will repeat the same trend again. This is because some unavoidable circumstances beyond your control can make you unable to settle your debts. After you get an unsecured credit card, it provides a good chance to repair your credit history. Make sure that you purchase items using your unsecured credit card and repay the money immediately. This way lenders will start building trust on you and you can be confident to approach bigger institutions for credit.

Are you new to credit cards? These days it seems there are a million different credit cards and none of them are the same. Each one has different fees, interest rates, and rewards. In this article I’m going to take you through a five step process you can take to get your next unsecured credit cards.

The Five Step Process

What is the purpose and outcome of this credit card? This is the first and most important question you need to answer first. Why do you want the card? Personally, I have to two cards, one is for internet purchases and the other is a gas card that gives a 5% rebate on all gas I buy. What is your reason, is it because you need a zero percent credit card that will help you on future purchases so you don’t have to pay large amounts of interest or is it so you can retain reward points so you can fly free on your next vacation? The point being you should have a solid reason for getting the card.

What kind of fees and interest does the card carry? Every credit card has fees and carries some sort of interest rate. The question is what fees and interest are you willing to tolerate. For example if the card you are looking at has a $75 annual fee are you willing to except that fee, or if your card has a default interest rate of 32.99% are you willing to except that rate if you would happen to miss a payment and they jacked your rate up. Take your time to read through the fine print this is where most people get into hot water.

What kind of reward do you want? This is the fun part about picking a credit card. Do you want frequent flyer miles, or reward points, or a 0% on all balance transfers? I’ll leave this up to you.

What kind of credit do you need? Most credit cards have a particular credit rating you need to meet in order to get the card. Most cards need a good to excellent credit rating; however few are available for bad credit users. If you do have bad credit I recommend staying away from unsecured credit cards all together because these cards will have extremely high interest rates and penalty fees.

Apply and prepare. At this point you should have a good idea of what card you want now it’s time to apply. Once you have that done your application will go through an approval process which could take a few weeks.

Are you needing to refinance your home or car but you have bad credit and you are unsure as to whether or not you will be able to get a refinance? While there are separate articles about how to improve your bad credit score that you should read, I will tell you that it is possible to get a bad credit refinance but there are definitely things that you need to look out for.

Most banks will be happy to refinance to you even if you have a bad credit score, but your refinance loan will have much different terms and conditions than it would if you have a higher credit score. The first thing that you will notice is that the interest rate of the loan will be a lot higher. This is to compensate for your bad credit (which is usually because of missed payments in the past so they are making sure that they get their money through interest in case they end up not getting their money because you miss payments).

Another thing that you will notice in the loan terms and conditions is that your interest rate will increase even higher the first time that you miss a payment. If you have better credit, then usually they give you a few chances if you happen to miss a payment, but if you have bad credit then mostly likely the first time that you miss a payment your interest rate on the refinance loan will skyrocket. This is another protection in place in case you get into the old habits of missing payments. So make sure that you understand this before trying to refinance your loan.

If you are willing to work with these terms, and make your payments on time, then you will be able to improve your score (as well as looking good in the eyes of that specific lender by building a solid history with them) and so you’ll be able to refinance in a few years and get a better rate and better terms and conditions for that refinance compared to this time around.

Click to read the article titled "Fix My Credit and Divorce"

The question how do I fix my credit report after a divorce has a few extra hiccups. If you are divorced, in the process, or even thinking about it, there are specific things you should know about how this will effect your credit score. First a disclaimer, I’m not a lawyer and you should seek competent legal advice. The information presented is based on personal experience and other research I have done on the topic.

All bills made in marriage are joint bills in most of the country. Disclaimer again, there may be states where this is not true, see your attorney for advice. Car loans, mortgages, credit cards, all these bills will come to light during the divorce process. Your question, how do I protect or fix my credit, can have a number of answers.

If you have a negative credit report before the divorce, you will have a negative report afterwards. The divorce will not make your bad debt history go away. Credit reporting agencies are really just the record keepers of your poor practices of paying your debt. They aren’t “judging” you, they are simply keeping track. In the divorce decree, it is likely debts will be apportioned to each side depending on either state law, the judges view of ability to pay, agreement between the parties, or any of a myriad other reasons. It is at this point that your credit can become affected.

Just because your ex-partner is assigned a bill that formerly belonged to both of you, doesn’t mean it disappears from your credit report. It could even be worse. If your ex fails to pay as agreed and your name remains on the account, your credit report will be affected. Getting your name off accounts that are no longer yours requires going directly to your creditor and following through on their process to get your name removed. This is a critical answer to your question on how do I fix my credit.

Here’s an example. During my divorce in 1989, I was assigned the mortgage of a jointly owned home. Seven years later when I decided to sell the property, my ex’s name was still on the mortgage note. The sale required her signature before it could be completed. She was the beneficiary of my paying my bills on this account for seven years. It could have just as easily gone the other way. Its much easier to maintain your credit than to ask the question, how do I fix my credit, after the damage has been done.

People that have bad credit often find themselves in a very tricky predicament. They need credit lines to improve their credit, but can’t get them because they have bad credit. It can be quite difficult to overcome this, but there are ways out of this mess.

A few years ago, I found myself in this exact situation. It wasn’t easy and honestly I had no idea what I was going to do. I wanted to improve my credit but didn’t know how. What I did know was that I needed to figure out how to get a credit card.

Since I didn’t know better, I started applying for cards left and right. I was hoping that eventually one of the card companies would issue me an unsecured card. That didn’t happen. Getting unsecured credit cards with bad credit is almost impossible, without preparation. I definitely wasn’t prepared. I was turned down left and right.

After a bunch of denials, I finally decided to do some reading. I discovered that I first needed to take out a secured credit card. According to what I read, this would allow me to build credit history. I would have to put down a deposit of a few hundred dollars but it seemed like it would solve my issue. It eventually did.

Within six or seven months, I was able to get approved for unsecured cards. I still didn’t have perfect credit, but I had shown that I could make my payments on time. Within a year, I had three unsecured cards. I continued to pay them on time and I now have stellar credit and fairly large credit lines. My biggest credit line right now is around $18,000. It’s almost funny to me that at one time I couldn’t get a card at all.

If you have had a hard time taking out unsecured credit cards, you should take out a secured card. It will get everything back on track.

If you are considering credit repair, but are concerned about credit repair scams, you will want to read this article. Specifically, we are going to discuss the warning signs of a credit repair scam. After reading this article you should be able to select a credit repair company with confidence.

It is no secret that companies make bold claims in order to get your business. The credit repair industry is no different. One sure sign that a company may not be completely legitimate is if they say that they can do things for you that you can not do for yourself. The reality is that no company can do as much for you as you can do for yourself. The reason to hire a credit repair company is not because they can do more for you. You should only hire a credit repair company if you don’t want to take the time to learn how to repair your own credit.

Other sure signs of a scam are companies that guarantee results. Many of these companies will make outrageous claims like “Guaranteed to raise your credit score 200 points in a month!” The reality is that because they are not in control of the credit bureaus, no company can promise any specific results. What you want is a company that will legitimately work on your behalf.

You should also be concerned if you run across a company that wants you to pay a large fee prior to them doing anything. While most companies will have some sort of set up fee, this should be fairly small. Never pay out large sums in advance for credit repair!

Hopefully by now you understand some of the most common warning signs of a credit restoration scams. While there are many good companies out there that you can work with, it is wise to research the companies up front and steer clear of ones that seem like they may not be above board.
